Travelers Championship Weekend is Here

Last week, we had an absolutely fantastic finish from Matt Fitzpatrick as a Will Zalatoris putt that would have forced a playoff came unbelievably, gut wrenching short. It was hard to not feel bad for him, but also easy to be super happy for Matt! The picture below shows it all for our boy Willy!

With that being said, that was then and this is now. I’ll be honest, it has been tough confirming who is even playing this weekend due to LIV Golf basically poaching the PGA Tour super hard. Can NOT blame the players for jumping on that ship! How would YOU like to do the same job you do now, work half the time, and get paid 15X more? You would be an absolute moron to not jump all over that. Screw the “integrity of the game”. You know what else I want to have integrity? My cash money bank account and if someone offers me 50x what I a making now, I don’t think I would even give 2 weeks notice! 🙂

Dang, I went off on a tangent there. Regardless, these fields of players seem to be getting thinner and thinner each and every week, but we still got a gang of talent, soooooooo, let’s do what we do every week about this time. Let’s throw $10 at 5 different golfers and see what potential we got here to start making that LIV Golf money (kidding and good luck!) – odds provided by Fan Duel on 6/22/22 – Starts on ESPN+ at 6:45 EST Thursday morning.

Mackensie Hughes – +9000 ($10 wins you $900 – yes you read that correctly)

Sounds stupid, right? I know, BUT, he has NEVER missed a cut at the Travelers Championship. NEVER. I know this doesn’t give him a significant edge for winning, but that stat is fairly impressive and a pretty good, not too risky, pick actually. In 2020, he tied for third place here. I have no problem throwing a bone his way and saying he actually does have a shot.

Rory McIlroy – +950 ($10 wins you $95)

Rory is getting better and better each week, and nobody was going to stop Fitzpatrick last Sunday. Clutch putt after clutch putt. I expect Rory to get back on a tear soon and he is a safe bet AND actually the favorite as far as odds go.

Jordan Spieth – +2200 ($10 wins you $220.00)

Why do I let my heart get in the way of my actual brain? But here I am again, hoping this is the week. He’s perfectly capable of it. Hard to believe it’s been 5 years since the insane walk off hole out for the win. Loved that! In all seriousness, Jordan can win at any time, and I would feel safe throwing a few bucks around with his name on it. I pick Jordan to win for the same reason I pick the Cowboys to win every football game they play…because I’m an actual idiot.

Tony Finau – +3400 ($10 wins you $340)

He is quietly getting better with each passing week as well. He has had some strong showings as of late, and I would not be surprised in the least if he pulls it off.

Scottie Scheffler – +950 ($10 wins you $95)

I actually had this spot slotted for Justin Thomas, but he withdrew from the tournament today. With that being said, give me some Scottie! 2022 is his year and we are just kind of living in it. Can’t wait to see what he does the remainder of the season and he could easily win this tournament by 5. He could also join LIV golf next Tuesday. #hookEmHorns! 🙂
