Here we are! Bittwersweet Super Bowl Sunday! 555 games have been played this season out of which SHOULD BE 557. If you recall, one of the final weeks of the season, the Bengals and Bills game weas stopped, canceled, and not played again after the Damar Hamlin situation.
This should be one of the best Super Bowls we have ever seen, at least on paper. This is a weird Super Bowl for me personally, as my two most hated teams are actually in this one. I never thought I would see this day!
Growing up in Missouri, when my Cowboys were awesome and the Chiefs were knocking on the door almost every year, but not quite getting there; the Chiefs fans were insanely annoying. Which is fine, because I know as a Cowboys fan, I am equally fan, if not worse. The Eagles are just the Eagles. Booing Michael Irvin while he laid paralyzed on their field, they’ve booed Santa Clause. Just classless people, really (halfway kidding when I say that).
I am however, in a quandary, as two of the people I love most in this world are fans of these teams. My son, who became an Eagles fan when he was little just to mess with me? Well, it actually stuck and we’re close to 18 years in. Maybe I dropped him on his head too much 🙂
My stepdad, Jim, is a die hard Chiefs fan. One of them will be ecstatic tonight. One will be sad! With that being said, let’s get to the game!
Again, on paper, this is super evenly matched. I am taking the Eagles to win and I’ll tell you why…
Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl
Yes, Mahomes is probably far and away the best quarterback in this league. I get it. However, if you look at something, it definitely causes concern if you are a Chiefs fan. This is his 3rd Super Bowl in 5 years, and it is obviously for a reason. However….
While Mahomes’ numbers in the playoffs are as impressive as his regular-season numbers, his worst two playoff games passer rating wise BOTH came in the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl 54 vs San Francisco
If it wasn’t for Jimmy G overthrowing Deebo Samuel in the 4th quarter, San Francisco wins that game. Mahomes, however, before leading a comeback win, he threw 2 picks. Sounds trivial, but any other playoff game? That doesn’t happen. Why? He was pressured BIG TIME. He had that second or two less than he normally has.
Super Bowl 55 vs Tampa Bay
This one was different. This is the only playoff game he did NOT throw a touchdown, he was sacked, pressured, and was running for his life the entire game. It showed! IF (big if) you can pressure him consistently, you have a much, much higher probability of winning that game. You just will.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Eagles pass rush is disgusting! They WILL be all over Mahomes and the defense is going to play out of their minds. With that being said, Kansas City defense is no joke, either. I do expect Chris Jones of Kansas City to continue being a monster. Keep in mind, the Eagles defense sent two quarterbacks to the hospital within 2 quarters in the NFC Championship game a couple of weeks ago. Mahomes is going to get harrased.
Now, if Kansas City gets up, Philly is in trouble. They won’t be able to play from behind very well if they get down by around 10. Also, however, if Philly gets up by 10, KC is in HUGE trouble. Philly’s running game is pretty awesome and their defense will be able to pin their ears back and get after them HARD!
On the offensive and defensive lines, Philly has the edge on both. QB and receivers, KC has the edge. Defense, Philly has the edge.
I see Philly getting up early, establishing a run, and basically molesting Mahomes all day. I could be wrong and KC could also win by 20. haha!
In the end, I see Philly pulling away, the city is gonna burn tonight and Chiefs fans will be sad. I got Philly beating KC 38-30. Book it!
For those of you putting a little cash on the game (gamble responsibly), check out what 10 bucks would do in a few scenarios below. I use and get my odds from Draft Kings
